Strong non profit organisations are able to deliver on their mission, maintain credibility and public trust, attract funding and work smarter and more easily.

BACKGROUND TO SCOPE

In 2005 the Tindall Foundation funded a two year pilot project in the Auckland region. SCOPE (Strengthening Community Organisations Project) was aimed at building capacity of the not for profit sector by providing funding for community organisations to access the assistance of experienced consultants at no cost to the groups. The pilot was a success with 50 organisations assisted. SCOPE is now available in Taranaki as a joint venture between the TSB Community Trust and the Taranaki Employment Support Foundation.

THE AIMS OF SCOPE

  1. Strengthening non profit support providers currently committed to and working in the sector by providing access to services that will enhance their work in the sector.
  2. Strengthen the capacity of non profit organizations

HOW SCOPE WORKS

Taranaki SCOPE is targeted at not for profit groups. It is aimed at building their capacity by providing expertise in governance, management, resource and financial planning, information technology, marketing, strategic planning and staff development. It works in two stages:

Stage 1

An independent reviewer spends the equivalent of two days with the organisation working with them to assess their capacity and capability and giving pointers on the way forward. A report on this is then provided to the organisation, which will identify priority areas where they could benefit from short term specific assistance from advisors.

The cost of this report is covered by the scheme.

Stage 2

The reviewer works with the organisation to help them get the assistance they need to improve on the areas identified in the report. An independent advisor(s) is allocated to work with the group for an agreed number of days. Groups are able to choose their advisors BUT ONLY from those individuals and companies listed on this web site AND ONLY after submitting the form on this website and having the SCOPE Coordinator contact the chosen advisers on their behalf.

The cost of this advice is covered by the scheme BUT ONLY if the organisation has had the SCOPE Coordinator contact the adviser on their behalf.

Funds have been provided to assist 24 organisations, and TSB Community Trust has identified these from their applicants’ data base.
